Rangers are close to finalising a deal for South African defender Olwethu Makhanya, with the transfer expected to cost around £3 million. The 22-year-old Philadelphia Union centre-back is set to join manager Derek McInnes's squad ahead of their Premiership opener against Dundee United on Friday.
Defensive Reinforcements
Makhanya, a South African international who was an unused substitute at the World Cup in America, has been on Rangers' radar throughout the summer. Ibrox chiefs are confident of completing the $4 million (£3m) deal before the trip to Tannadice.
Currently, Ben Godfrey and Emmanuel Fernandez are the only natural centre-halves available, as John Souttar is out of the picture and expected to leave before the transfer window closes. Makhanya will provide crucial cover in defence.
Winger Pursuit
Rangers are also pushing ahead with a planned move for Brighton winger Amario Cozier-Duberry. However, the 21-year-old will not be rushed into the squad for Friday's opener. Official discussions have begun after Brighton rejected a £5 million bid from Anderlecht.
Former Rangers boss Danny Rohl, now at RB Salzburg, has been linked with Cozier-Duberry, while West Ham and Hull are also monitoring the situation. It remains unclear whether Rangers will buy him outright or secure a season-long loan.
Midfielder's Future
Midfielder Paul Nsio is poised to sign a new contract with Rangers, after which he is expected to join St Mirren on loan. The 20-year-old impressed during a loan spell at Raith Rovers last season and featured for Rangers in a friendly earlier this month.
