Nico Gonzalez has completed his move from Manchester City to Newcastle United in a deal worth up to £52million, becoming the latest player to depart the Etihad this summer.
City exit confirmed
The midfielder arrived at City just 18 months ago, joining from Porto for £50m. The 24-year-old made 59 appearances for the Blues and, at one stage last season, was a key player in midfield after overcoming a summer fraught with speculation over his future.
However, the Spaniard fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola in the second half of the campaign. He was overlooked for Mateo Kovacic in the Community Shield, and Marc Guehi started ahead of him in midfield against Palace.
Midfield overhaul
Gonzalez joins Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Tijjani Reijnders as senior midfield exits this summer. City have signed Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi and remain keen on Enzo Fernandez.
Gonzalez had spoken of his desire to stay earlier in the summer and work with Enzo Maresca, but has now moved to St James' Park.
