Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez as the summer transfer window enters its final eight days. The Magpies could also bring in a further two players before the deadline.
Magpies target Gonzalez
Gonzalez is the primary target as Newcastle look to strengthen their squad following the departures of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier this summer.
The club have already made six signings in this window, with goalkeepers Lukas Hornicek and Ewen Jaouen, midfielders Sean Steur and Aladji Bamba, right-back Amar Dedic and left-winger Bazoumana Toure all joining.
Further arrivals and potential exits
Head coach Matthias Jaissle has admitted United will be active this week, and up to two additional players could arrive on top of Gonzalez. There may also be outgoings, with Nick Pope, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy all linked with a departure.
Newcastle supporters can expect further updates as the club look to conclude their business before the window shuts.
