Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly set to compete for the signature of Nottingham Forest and England midfielder Elliot Anderson, with a potential transfer fee of up to £100 million. The 23-year-old has impressed for both club and country, becoming a regular starter under England manager Thomas Tuchel alongside Declan Rice during World Cup qualifying.
According to The Times, Manchester United view Anderson as a potential replacement for Casemiro, whose contract at Old Trafford, which includes an option for a 12-month extension, expires at the end of the current season. The Red Devils are planning a midfield overhaul after significant changes in attack over the summer, and speculation also surrounds the future of Kobbie Mainoo.
Liverpool are also said to be interested in Anderson as they seek midfield upgrades following a poor start to their Premier League title defence. Newcastle United are additionally linked with a return for the player, having sold him to Forest for £35 million in the summer of 2024 to comply with Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Anderson, a Tyneside native, came through Newcastle’s academy and made 55 senior appearances for the club before moving to Forest. He has since made 56 appearances for Forest, scoring three goals and providing seven assists. His first goal of the current season came in a 3-1 win over Leeds in November. Liverpool will face Forest at Anfield on Saturday, giving them a close look at the midfielder.
