Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has insisted the club need more signings as they prepare for the new Premier League season and a Champions League return.
Carrick issues transfer statement
United have been revitalised under Carrick, who has steered the fallen giants back into the Champions League. Now he wants to get the Red Devils competing for Premier League titles once again, like they did for nearly two and a half decades under legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, before his retirement sparked a 13-year drought.
The club have recruited Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and veteran goalkeeper Karl Darlow, alongside several young talents, but the boss has maintained that more is required to help the team contend for major silverware.
"We want more, we need more, we keep looking for how we can do that," he said. "Money's money, I get that. We feel like we have to be pushing for everything we're involved in, while being realistic of what the recent history's looked like over a period of time."
"For now, we've got to make the most of it, but we've got to push every boundary we can to be able to win again, basically. That's the challenge."
Ibrahim Mbaye decision made
United have been handed a lift in their chase for Ibrahim Mbaye as Liverpool have allegedly chosen to withdraw their interest in the PSG winger. The Merseyside outfit are seeking wide players following Mohamed Salah's choice to depart Anfield and are pursuing a £100m-plus move for Mbaye's team-mate Bradley Barcola.
Yet Liverpool have apparently backed away from a potential agreement for Mbaye, 18, owing to his £42.7m valuation. The Senegal teenager confronts restricted first team chances at PSG, considering the quantity of forwards already within their ranks.
In an additional boost to United, the French side have consented to acquire Ferran Torres from Barcelona for approximately the same sum, potentially making an agreement for Mbaye more probable. Spanish outlet AS suggests that numerous other clubs, including Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Aston Villa, have also submitted enquiries about Mbaye, who netted three goals in 29 appearances last term.
