Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has said he would swap Marcus Rashford for Myles Lewis-Skelly, believing Mikel Arteta would be great for the Manchester United forward.
Rashford has returned to Old Trafford after Barcelona chose not to make his loan spell permanent. He could make his first appearance for his boyhood club in over 18 months. The England international has been handed the No.14 shirt, hinting that Michael Carrick will give him a first-team role for the 2026-27 campaign.
Swap proposal
Speaking to BestBettingSites, Dixon said: "Would I swap them (Myles Lewis Skelly and Marcus Rashford)? You know what, I probably would. And that's nothing against Myles Lewis-Skelly; it's about giving him the freedom to go and expand his game elsewhere."
He added: "With Marcus Rashford, he's a player who needs an arm around his shoulder, and Arteta would be great for him. Give him that love, give him the freedom to play on that left side, and yeah, I'd like to see him in an Arsenal shirt."
Rashford's form
Rashford produced 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances at the Nou Camp last term. He has experienced highs and lows throughout his United career but remains a high-level player when firing on all cylinders.
United's attacking options have been transformed since Rashford was frozen out by Ruben Amorim, with Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko all joining. Amad Diallo also continues to flourish.
Lewis-Skelly's situation
At Arsenal, Lewis-Skelly bounced back from a difficult start to the campaign and ultimately ended up starting in the Champions League final. He made just five league starts and was deployed far more frequently in the Champions League by Arteta.
His ability to operate in multiple roles makes him a valuable asset, and United have been seeking to strengthen their options in midfield and at left-back - two positions that Lewis-Skelly is capable of filling.
