Man Utd star pens emotional farewell ahead of Arsenal move

Habeeb Ogunneye has penned an emotional farewell to Manchester United ahead of his proposed transfer to Arsenal on Transfer Deadline Day.

The young right-back, who spent five years climbing through the ranks at Old Trafford, is set to make the move to north London on a free transfer. United are reported to have secured a significant sell-on clause in the deal.

Red Devils teammate James Scanlon is anticipated to make the same move this summer. Arsenal's newly appointed Under-21s head coach, David Horseman, is familiar with both players, having previously served as an academy coach at United.

Emotional Instagram Post

Ogunneye was believed to have undergone a medical ahead of his transfer earlier this week. Posting on Instagram, the young player said: "Five years. What a journey."

"Forever grateful for the memories, the people and everything this club has given me. Time for the next chapter," reports the Manchester Evening News.

His post was accompanied by a snapshot of him as a youngster in United training gear and another of him stepping out at Old Trafford.

Reactions and Career Highlights

Former Arsenal youth player Chido Obi, who now represents United, was among those to react. He, along with Darren Fletcher's sons Jack and Tyler, sent red hearts to their soon-to-be ex-teammate. Kai Rooney was also amongst those to send their best wishes to Ogunneye.

Ogunneye possesses some senior football experience, having spent a spell on loan at Newport County last season. He joined the club on a temporary deal the previous summer and turned out 21 times for the League Two side before being brought back in January.

The academy product has been included in several of United's first-team squads, earning a spot on the bench for an FA Cup fifth-round tie against Nottingham Forest in 2024 and for the Reds' FA Cup semi-final against Coventry at Wembley.

Arsenal's Summer Recruitment

Arsenal have been eager to strengthen their ranks with young talent this summer, and appear to be close to completing the capture of Igor Tyjon from Blackburn Rovers as well.

The Gunners have consistently been associated with a move for the 18-year-old throughout 2026 and are said to have agreed a deal for an initial £1million, with a further £2m available in potential add-ons.

Tyjon is also believed to have undergone a medical, and has said his goodbyes via social media, although his post has since been deleted.
