Manchester United have suffered another setback in their search for a left-back before the transfer deadline, with moves for Lewis Hall and Alejandro Balde hitting obstacles. Lewis Hall had been the club's primary target for most of the summer, but Newcastle United demanded a world-record fee for a left-back to consider selling him.
Attention then turned to Barcelona's Alejandro Balde, whose place in Hansi Flick's starting XI is not guaranteed despite impressing for the Catalan side. However, that pursuit has also stalled, leaving United to consider other targets before Tuesday's deadline.
Four alternatives identified
David Raum is one option, sharing similarities with current left-back Luke Shaw. Both players are keen to get forward and create chances in the final third, though they can be defensively suspect at times. The 28-year-old has one year remaining on his contract with RB Leipzig, which could keep his price relatively low.
Jorge Salinas is another possibility, having starred for Racing Santander as they earned promotion to La Liga last season. At 19, the teenager would need time to develop, but his £13million price tag makes him the most cost-effective option on the list.
Premier League alternatives
Ferdi Kadioglu has impressed at Brighton and offers versatility, capable of playing in midfield or on the wing. A fee of £40million could be enough to persuade Brighton to sell.
El Hadji Malick Diouf is also a target, though United would need to act quickly. Brentford have agreed a fee with West Ham for the player, but at least one other Premier League club remains interested, according to Sky Sports News.
