Manchester United could be set for a frantic weekend of transfer business as they look to conclude their summer window before Tuesday's deadline. A midfield rebuild has already taken place over the last few months, with Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos arriving at Old Trafford. However, there are still a couple of problem areas that need addressing before the window closes.
Left-back and striker targets
United are known to be in the market for a new left-back to provide cover for Luke Shaw, who is their only real option at the moment. They have additionally been tipped to land another striker, which would improve their depth at the very top of the pitch.
Several players could also leave United ahead of Tuesday's all-important deadline, but time is running out for those deals to be struck. Express Sport looks at four transfers United could realistically complete over the weekend.
Dan Gore set for Luton loan
The youngster has been tipped to leave Old Trafford in search of regular game time, having been made available earlier in the window. He now looks set to join Luton Town on loan until the end of the season, according to the Daily Mail.
Head coach Jack Wilshere reportedly wants Gore to help the Hatters achieve promotion back to the Championship. It's claimed the deal is essentially done, with the 21-year-old poised to complete the switch in the not-too-distant future.
Toby Collyer close to West Brom move
Another academy graduate could depart United over the coming days, with Collyer reportedly close to joining West Bromwich Albion. He was in and around the first-team squad a couple of seasons ago but has seen his prospects of regular game time at United dwindle since then.
Collyer spent last season out on loan and will leave the club again this summer, with Ben Jacobs reporting that he is expected to join the Baggies.
Zirkzee and Matanovic updates
Zirkzee has been linked with a move away from United throughout the summer window and it seems he could finally be about to leave. Fiorentina are reportedly in advanced talks with the Red Devils over the possibility of a loan deal until the end of the 2026/27 campaign.
At this stage, it's not known if any purchase clause will be included in the package that would see Zirkzee return to Serie A after two years at United. If a loan exit for Zirkzee is sanctioned over the weekend, it could see United launch a late swoop for another forward in the form of Freiburg striker Matanovic.
He has become a primary target for the Red Devils ahead of Zirkzee's likely departure, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. However, the report adds that Tottenham are also interested in securing his signature. Matanovic, who stands at six feet and five inches tall, scored 15 goals in all competitions for Freiburg last season and represents Croatia at international level.
