Manchester United have made contact over Paris Saint-Germain starlet Ibrahim Mbaye, who is available for £42million, while the club has confirmed the sale of young winger Ethan Williams to Peterborough United for a "sizeable disclosed fee."
United among clubs enquiring about Mbaye
United are said to be among a string of clubs to have lodged an enquiry about the 18-year-old, who is regarded as one of Europe's brightest young talents. The European champions need to make room in their squad following the arrival of new talent this summer.
World Cup winner Ferran Torres now looks to be on his way to the Parc de Princes, which would squeeze Mbaye's chances of first-team football even more. According to AS, the situation has put a host of major clubs on alert.
As well as United, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Porto, RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Roma and Aston Villa have been credited with an interest in the player, who PSG are prepared to let go for just £42million.
Williams departs for Peterborough
Young winger Ethan Williams has been sold to Peterborough for a "sizeable disclosed fee," according to the League One club. The 20-year-old has been allowed to leave after being part of the pre-season tour of Scandinavia. Having not made a senior start for United, he has been allowed to leave to advance his career.
Speaking after joining the League One side, Williams said: "I have enjoyed my time at United and it's always tough to leave a place like that. But there comes a time in your career where you have to make tough decisions to develop yourself and Peterborough is renowned for helping younger players."
Peterborough manager Luke Williams said: "Ethan is a player that will give us another option in the wide areas. He is quick, direct and will be a threat and I am looking forward to working with him."
United have already strengthened their spine with the arrivals of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, but there is plenty more work to be done with time running out ahead of the season opener at newly-promoted Hull City a week on Saturday.
