Manchester United have completed the signing of 16-year-old winger Isaac Konde from Liverpool. The teenager becomes the latest young player to complete a move to Old Trafford.
United have focused on securing the best young talent who can step up to the first team in future seasons. Konde becomes the latest new arrival and joins midfielder Karim Cassim, who completed a move from Manchester City this week.
Scholarship and Professional Contract
The Athletic reports that Konde has signed a one-year scholarship, which will turn into a five-year professional contract when he is 17. Players aren't allowed to sign professional deals until they reach that age.
As is the case with youth transfers, United now have to agree a compensation fee with Liverpool. The two clubs are reportedly holding talks, with Liverpool expecting to receive a seven-figure fee.
If a deal can't be reached between the two clubs, then a Premier League tribunal will be needed to decide how much United will pay to their rivals.
Konde's Background and Role
Konde has been at Liverpool since joining as an under-nine in 2018. He will join up with Darren Fletcher's Under-18s squad as he looks to make an immediate impact with his new club. The youngster could be seen as a potential replacement for JJ Gabriel, who has requested to leave the club.
Cassim's Move Confirmed
Another youngster to join United is Cassim, whose move was confirmed on Thursday. In a club statement, United said: "Manchester United have agreed the signing of exciting youngster Karim Cassim.
"The England youth international has joined after leaving Manchester City. The 17-year-old was part of the City side that won the FA Youth Cup last season.
"On the international front, the central midfielder has been capped up to England's Under-17s. Everyone at the club would like to welcome Karim to United and we wish him the very best of luck."
The midfielder has already been part of United's youth squad when he was spotted on the bench for the U18s for the match against Charlton last month. He joined David Eze to make the move from Manchester City to United.
