Chelsea may need to lower their asking price for Malo Gusto if they are to find a buyer this summer, with Manchester City showing interest but balking at the current valuation.
Blues' rebuild continues under Alonso
Xabi Alonso is overhauling a Chelsea squad that failed to qualify for Europe last season. After Enzo Maresca's departure in January and Liam Rosenior's brief tenure, the Blues now look better equipped to challenge for Champions League qualification.
The attack has been strengthened with Morgan Rogers arriving for £117 million and Danny Welbeck adding experience alongside Joao Pedro. Jordan Henderson's presence brings leadership to a dressing room lacking it since Thiago Silva left two years ago.
Defensive changes and full-back competition
In defence, Trevoh Chalobah is set to join Como, with Maxence Lacroix arriving as a Premier League-proven replacement. Marc Cucurella has left for Real Madrid, with Pep Chavarria coming in. On the right, Marco Palestra's arrival from Bologna could hasten Gusto's exit.
Gusto was a regular under Maresca at right-back, and the new Manchester City head coach is keen to reunite with the France international. City used Matheus Nunes at right-back for much of last season, but Maresca wants a more natural full-back.
Price sticking point
Chelsea's £75m asking price is a major obstacle. According to RMC, they will need to lower their demands to encourage City or PSG to make a formal offer.
Maresca also remains interested in Pedro Neto, who could replace Savinho at the Etihad if the Brazilian moves to Tottenham. Chelsea value Neto in the same bracket as Gusto.
