Manchester City are ready to sign two more midfielders this month if both Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders leave, in addition to the expected arrival of Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille. The club are making progress on the Bouaddi deal, which will proceed regardless of any outgoings.
Midfield overhaul planned
The potential arrivals of Bouaddi and club-record signing Elliot Anderson, for a combined fee that could reach £200m, would refresh the midfield, but fans are anxious about losing both Bernardo Silva and Rodri in the same summer. Silva has already left on a free transfer to Real Madrid, while Real and Barcelona are circling for Rodri, who is in the final year of his contract.
City would only consider selling Rodri for the right fee and if a replacement is secured. The same applies to Reijnders, who joined last summer but had a frustrating year under Pep Guardiola and is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Galatasaray.
Additional signings possible
If both Reijnders and Rodri are sold, City would bring in two more midfielders on top of Bouaddi and Anderson. Mateo Kovacic is content to stay for the final year of his contract after being assured the club count on him, and Nico Gonzalez plans to remain part of Enzo Maresca's squad.
The replacement policy extends to other positions, so another signing would follow if Tottenham secure Brazilian winger Savinho. Maresca offered no assurances about Savinho or Reijnders staying when asked on Wednesday in Seoul after City's second friendly of their Asia trip.
Alongside January signings Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, the club are confident the summer business will give Maresca the best chance of success at the Etihad.
