Manchester City have issued a clear warning to Arsenal and other Premier League rivals that they are determined to reclaim the title after appointing Enzo Maresca as their new manager. The club has already secured the £116 million signing of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest and plans further spending in the summer transfer window.
Maresca Appointed on Three-Year Deal
Maresca, formerly of Chelsea, was confirmed as Pep Guardiola's successor on a three-year contract on Monday. Guardiola stepped down after a decade-long tenure that yielded 20 trophies, leaving Maresca with the task of continuing that success. The new manager inherits a squad that finished second last season, with Arsenal expected to be their main challengers.
Chief executive officer Ferran Soriano stated: "Enzo was the stand-out candidate in our considerations. We know his personality and his vision for the way football should be played. He is a man with integrity, charisma and passion." Soriano also highlighted Maresca's previous contributions at City, including managing the Elite Development Squad and playing a key role in the Treble-winning season.
Club Pledges Full Support
Soriano confirmed that Maresca will receive "everything he needs" to build on Guardiola's legacy. "We will ensure that he receives everything he needs to be successful here and we are all very much looking forward to seeing his positive impact on the next phase of the Club’s progress," he added.
Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak echoed this sentiment: "Enzo is someone who has always sought out opportunities to challenge himself and succeed in his managerial career. He brings a personality, passion and intelligence completely aligned to our needs." Al Mubarak emphasized that Maresca inherits a squad perfectly suited to his style of play and that the club is united in its ambition.
Transfer Warning to Rivals
The £116 million signing of Anderson signals City's intent to dominate the transfer market. With Maresca at the helm, the club is expected to make further marquee signings to close the gap on Arsenal, who won the Premier League last season. City's financial muscle and renewed ambition under Maresca pose a significant threat to their rivals.
