Paris Saint-Germain took a commanding 2-0 lead over Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday night, with goals from Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. Doue opened the scoring in the 11th minute, his shot taking a wicked deflection off a Liverpool defender to loop over goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Ousmane Dembele then missed a golden chance to double the lead, but Kvaratskhelia made no mistake from close range to secure a two-goal advantage ahead of the second leg at Anfield.
Liverpool's defeat extended their run to four straight away losses in all competitions, as they were outclassed by the reigning champions. In other quarter-final action, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid all recorded first-leg victories away from home against Real Madrid, Sporting and Barcelona respectively.
Late drama saw Liverpool survive a penalty appeal when Ibrahima Konate nudged Nuno Mendes in the box, but the referee waved play on. Dembele then hit the woodwork before being substituted, while Liverpool introduced Trey Nyoni for the final minutes. The second leg takes place next week at Anfield.
