Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that the club will not hesitate to sign quality players if the opportunity arises, amid strong links to Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak. The Premier League champions have already spent close to £300 million this summer and are reportedly preparing a bid for the Sweden international.
Liverpool have long admired Isak and have funds available from the £65.5 million sale of Luis Díaz to Bayern Munich. The 25-year-old is said to be keen on a move to Anfield, and Real Sociedad confirmed on Thursday that he is training at their Zubieta base after missing Newcastle's tour of Asia.
Newcastle are demanding £150 million for Isak, who has three years left on his contract, but Liverpool are believed to be unwilling to pay more than £120 million. The Reds would likely need to break the British transfer record to secure his signature.
“I always say, another thing about Liverpool is that if we see a chance in the market we never hesitate to bring someone in,” Slot said as Liverpool left Japan after their pre-season tour. “It’s about quality and we have already made some very good signings.”
This summer, Liverpool have signed Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen, the former for a club-record £100 million, as well as Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, Hugo Ekitiké from Eintracht Frankfurt, and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. Slot emphasised the club's strategy of targeting specific players to strengthen the squad, while also needing to recoup money through sales.
