Liverpool are reportedly plotting a massive £188million double transfer raid on Paris Saint-Germain for Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, as the club looks to bolster its attacking options before the September 1 deadline.
Reds target PSG duo
The reigning European champions are demanding around £145m for 23-year-old French international Barcola, though reports suggest Liverpool hope to secure him for considerably less. PSG value Senegal international Mbaye at approximately £43m.
Mbaye, who joined the PSG academy in 2018 from Versailles, was called up by Luis Enrique in 2024 to train with the first team. He has contributed eight goals and 13 assists in 36 appearances for PSG, operating predominantly on the right but comfortable on either flank.
Transfer activity so far
Liverpool have so far welcomed only French centre-half Jeremy Jacquet and Spanish wide-man Victor Munoz this summer. The club has suffered significant outfield losses, with Mohamed Salah signing for Trabzonspor, Andy Robertson joining Tottenham Hotspur, and Ibrahima Konate moving to Real Madrid.
With the Premier League opener against Newcastle less than three weeks away, the Reds are running out of time to strengthen. A friendly against Monaco at Anfield on Sunday, August 9, concludes pre-season preparations.
Carragher's bleak prediction
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has voiced reservations about the club's transfer activity, writing off their chances of winning the Premier League title this season.
"Where we are right now, and there is still a month to go transfer-wise, I can only see Arsenal or Man City (winning the league)," Carragher said on The Football Ramble. "I think Liverpool need two defenders and a top right winger to be in the 'chat' or in the chase. They haven't replaced Mo Salah."
"They are supposed to be going for Barcola, and I'm sitting there scratching my head thinking the manager and the people sorting the transfers out know a lot more than I do about what's going on behind the scenes, but we have about four players who can play left wing, and we are going for Barcola."
"They haven't got one player who plays on the right wing in the squad. I'm a little bit worried but what I would say about Liverpool and people above, with the people above, I do trust them in terms of over the last decade or so, how they have gone about their business - they sell well, they bring in good fees. There must be something up their sleeve."
