Liverpool could bypass a Premier League squad rule to sign Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye this summer, as part of a potential triple raid on the French club. The 18-year-old winger is a target for the Reds, who are also pursuing PSG's Bradley Barcola and defender Illia Zabarnyi.
Mbaye's age avoids registration issue
According to Fabrizio Romano, Mbaye has made it clear he wants to leave PSG and is open to joining Liverpool. A potential stumbling block had been Premier League rules limiting the number of non-homegrown senior players, with Liverpool reportedly having just one spare slot. However, because of Mbaye's age, he would not need to be registered as a senior player, meaning he would not occupy that slot.
Barcola remains the priority
Liverpool's main attacking target is Barcola, who PSG are open to selling if a suitable offer arrives. However, PSG's valuation is said to be north of £120 million, while Liverpool value the Frenchman at around £86 million. The Reds are still pushing to land Barcola, but the gap in valuations could be a stumbling block.
Zabarnyi also on the radar
Liverpool are also interested in Zabarnyi, who left Bournemouth last summer but struggled for minutes at PSG. The Reds need defensive reinforcements after losing Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer at the end of the season.
With the Premier League season starting on August 23, Liverpool have limited time to complete their transfer business. Iraola's side have just two pre-season friendlies remaining before their opening match away to Newcastle.
