Liverpool Hijack Newcastle's Munoz Deal

Newcastle United have been rocked after Liverpool joined the race for Victor Munoz, with talks on triggering his clause sparking a major breakthrough. Chronicle Live understands that the Reds have triggered the agreement of £35 million after Newcastle's structured offer was not given the green light by Osasuna.

It is believed that Newcastle had agreed a contract in principle with Munoz, but with the deal left dangling, Liverpool took advantage of the hesitancy. While the deal has not been confirmed yet, there could be a dose of disappointment coming Newcastle's way if it gets rubber stamped.

Munoz has been told the terms of Liverpool, and his head could have been firmly turned as the player's agent waited for Newcastle to restructure the deal. Newcastle have only managed to get a deal done for Ewen Jaouen with Stade Reims so far after announcing an £18.5 million deal last week.

But the wait may drag on for signing number two after the news of Liverpool's swoop for Munoz. As Chronicle Live reported last week, one negative aspect of the complexity of the deal compared to the talks for Jaouen who signed last week is that it alerted previously interested clubs, who were informed of where things stand between the Magpies and Osasuna.
