Liverpool's search for attacking reinforcements has hit another roadblock, with Paris Saint-Germain holding out for big money for Ibrahim Mbaye, a known target for the Reds.
The Merseyside club are also in talks with the Parisians about a move for Bradley Barcola, their main attacking target, but the Frenchman is valued at around £130million by PSG, making a deal difficult.
Minteh injury weakens Liverpool's position
Liverpool's negotiating position has been weakened in recent days after it emerged that Yankuba Minteh, a back-up option on the right wing, will be out for some time with an injury. The Brighton forward was known to be on Liverpool's radar but is now another option crossed off their list.
With very few right-wing options elsewhere on the market, Liverpool might have to pay what PSG want for Mbaye, which is said to be around £40m.
Attack in need of improvement
Liverpool's attack is one of the biggest areas in need of improvement, having waved goodbye to club legend Mohamed Salah in the summer. Hugo Ekitike is also expected to remain out injured until the turn of the year, leaving Andoni Iraola in the lurch with his options.
Captain Virgil van Dijk has sent a subtle message to the board, urging them to add more quality to the squad.
Potential outgoings
Should Liverpool secure attacking reinforcements, there could be movement out of the club, as Cody Gakpo is being linked with a move away from Anfield. Tottenham have emerged as a suitor for the Dutchman, with talk of a £60m bid gathering momentum in recent weeks.
It's been reported in the Netherlands that there has been contact between the two Premier League clubs. Clubs have until September 1 to complete all of their summer business.
