Luis Suarez has advised Julian Alvarez to consider staying at Atletico Madrid, drawing parallels with his own decision to remain at Liverpool despite interest from Arsenal. The Uruguayan, now at Inter Miami, recalled how he pushed to join Arsenal in 2013 but was convinced by Steven Gerrard to stay, leading to his best season at Anfield.
Suarez told Spanish radio station Cadena SER: 'I faced the same situation myself when I was at Liverpool, and I said I wanted to go to Arsenal. The captain, Gerrard, came to me and convinced me, "If you have a great season, we’ll help you and you’ll be able to go to Barcelona, Real Madrid, wherever you want." He convinced me, and I went out to apologise. I gave my all for Liverpool, the fans forgave me, and it turned out to be my best season at Liverpool.'
The 39-year-old believes Alvarez, who has expressed a desire to leave Atletico, could benefit from staying put. 'Diego Simeone and the fans might convince him that this could be Atletico’s year. Or perhaps Julian will stand his ground and say, "That’s it." That depends on each person,' Suarez added.
Alvarez, 26, has been linked with Barcelona, Arsenal and Real Madrid. Suarez praised the Argentine's qualities, calling him 'a great target man' who is 'fast and powerful.' He noted that Barcelona and any top club would want him, but suggested a patient approach could lead to a dream move later, as it did for him.
