Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet for a fee of £52 million plus £8.6 million in add-ons, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 20-year-old France Under-21 international will join the Reds in the summer on a long-term contract, having also attracted interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Personal terms have already been agreed.
However, a late move for Lutsharel Geertruida has fallen through. The Liverpool Echo reports that Sunderland, who have the Netherlands international on loan from RB Leipzig, cannot sanction his departure before Monday's 7pm deadline as they lack time to find a replacement. Geertruida had been keen on the move and Liverpool were prepared to proceed, but the deal is now off.
On the outgoing front, Curtis Jones has attracted interest from Inter Milan, while Dominik Szoboszlai's long-term future is uncertain. Andy Robertson had been linked with Tottenham. Liverpool have had a quiet January window, with no first-team signings or departures so far, but the Jacquet deal signals their intent for the summer.
