Arsenal legend Lee Dixon has stated he would swap Myles Lewis-Skelly for Manchester United's Marcus Rashford if the opportunity arose this summer. Lewis-Skelly, who emerged from Arsenal's academy two years ago, made 23 Premier League appearances in his debut season and won the title last term, but has since fallen out of favour as Riccardo Calafiori established himself as first-choice left-back.
Dixon's Verdict
Speaking to BestBettingSites, Dixon said: 'Would I swap them? You know what, I probably would. That's nothing against Myles Lewis-Skelly; it's about giving him the freedom to go and expand his game elsewhere.' He added that Rashford needs 'an arm around his shoulder' and that Arteta 'would be great for him'.
Despite reservations about Rashford's consistency, Dixon believes Arsenal are short in attack following Leandro Trossard's departure to Besiktas, saying: 'I have my reservations about whether he's consistently a top-class player, but based on what Arsenal have in the squad now, he'd be a good addition.'
United's Interest
Manchester United have been monitoring Lewis-Skelly's situation, though Arsenal are reportedly unwilling to sell. United are also targeting left-backs, with Lewis Hall of Newcastle United a priority, but Newcastle have insisted he is not for sale. Other options include Jorge Salinas and Antonee Robinson.
Ex-United defender Phil Bardsley, speaking to Casinolyze, urged his former club to pursue Hall, saying: 'Lewis Hall from Newcastle United would be the perfect fit.' He added: 'I prefer Lewis Hall to Myles Lewis-Skelly when you look at what Manchester United need this summer. Hall is better suited to playing left-back.'
