Newcastle United head coach Matthias Jaissle has shut down any talk of Lewis Hall joining Manchester United this summer despite the Red Devils' transfer interest in the England international.
Manchester United are known to be in the market for a left-back as they look for competition for 31-year-old Luke Shaw in the position. Hall is said to be right at the top of their shopping list but Chronicle Live understands the Magpies would not even consider any approach for the 21-year-old this summer.
No plans to sell more key players
Newcastle have sold Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon already this summer and have no plans to sell any more of their top players. Jaissle has now made that message abundantly clear in public.
The former RB Salzburg and Al-Ahli head coach was interviewed pitch side by Viaplay Sports at St James' Park after Newcastle's 2-2 draw with Liverpool on Sunday and was questioned about the further business Newcastle intend to do before the transfer deadline slams shut on September 1.
'No chance' reply to Schmeichel
"I think it will be a stressful period for the sporting director," Jaissle explained. "We have some needs, definitely."
When asked what he has asked for, Jaissle replied: "Position wise? To be honest, because you asked I was about to tell you but I will keep it a secret. If we are bringing players in, maybe also we are bringing some players out."
At this point, Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, who was working as a pundit on the game for the TV station, chimed in and said: "We [Manchester United] are looking at your left-back," prompting Jaissle to laugh before firmly telling him: "No chance."
Hall's full display in draw
Hall played the full 90 minutes on Sunday, impressing at left-back before giving away a last gasp penalty for a foul on Victor Munoz that saw Dominik Szoboszlai rifle home an equaliser from the penalty spot to cruelly deny Jaissle's side three points.
