Andoni Iraola gave little away when asked for an update on Bradley Barcola after Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on Saturday lunchtime. The Reds have agreed a £123m deal with Paris Saint-Germain for the France international, who is due on Merseyside for his medical this weekend.
Deal details and timeline
Liverpool will pay an initial £106m for Barcola, with a further £17m in add-ons. The terms were finalised between Wednesday evening and Friday night. The 24-year-old is expected to be confirmed as a Liverpool player before Tuesday's 11pm transfer deadline.
Despite the agreement, Iraola refused to shed further light on the deal after his first Anfield fixture in charge ended in a draw against Oliver Glasner's Forest.
Iraola's cautious response
"I cannot tell you anything right now but it is true that there are things going on and that is normal," Iraola said. "We are in the last weeks of the market and now we have to wait to see the squad that we will have on September 2, and this is who we are."
He added: "We will then work with certainties. Now everything is quite uncertain and same for every team. But this is how the competition works. So now wait just some more days and we work with what we have after the market closes."
Further transfer activity
Liverpool are also expected to pursue another winger before the deadline and have made checks on Ismaila Sarr at Crystal Palace and Real Madrid's Endrick, alongside two rejected bids for Brighton & Hove Albion's Yankuba Minteh, who is injured until October.
Asked if he would be happy with the makeup of his squad should the club only add wingers, Iraola said: "We are talking now about the positives because we don't know what is going to be the squad on September 2. I think every analysis I can make is when I know [the squad] and when everything finishes. I will know who is going to be here all the season, or until January. So now we have waited all this time and we have to wait a few more days and analyse what we have when the market closes."
