Alf-Inge Haaland has said his son Erling Haaland could leave Manchester City at the end of this season, naming six clubs the striker might join. The comments have resurfaced after City were found guilty on 114 of the 115 charges they faced for financial rule breaches.
Father's 2022 prediction
In 2022, Haaland Sr appeared in the documentary Haaland: The Big Decision and said: "I think Erling wants to prove his abilities in all leagues. Then he can stay there [Manchester City] for three or four years at the most. He could be, for example, two-and-a-half years in Germany, two-and-a-half years in England and then in Spain, Italy, France, right?"
The former Leeds United and Manchester City player added: "On our list, I think City is the best team. [Bayern] Munich is number two. We have Real Madrid as number three, Paris Saint-Germain as number four. We also have some English teams other than City who are quite good. Liverpool and Chelsea. Also, there is Barcelona. They are sort of in the same row."
Current contract and interest
Haaland signed a contract extension in 2025 that ties him to City until 2034. Real Madrid and Barcelona have previously shown interest in the striker, and the charges may provide a new incentive for them to pursue him.
Haaland was scheduled to speak before Norway's match against Portugal but was removed from media duties. TV2 reported that he has been replaced by Benfica duo Andreas Schjelderup and Fredrik Aursnes.
The 26-year-old has not yet commented on City's verdict, but previously said of his new contract: "It has been amazing, and it's been like a dream these past two and a half years, but I'm really looking forward to what's next and for the future. I'm going to stay for a long time so now I can fully focus on getting better because [I know] I'm going to stay for such a long time. So, [the] full focus [is] on performing and getting better and to give all the fans what they want."
