Greenwoods Contract Clause May Bring Man Utd Windfall

Mason Greenwood's strong form at Marseille could lead to a significant financial windfall for Manchester United, thanks to a sell-on clause in his transfer deal. The 23-year-old joined the Ligue 1 club last summer for £25.6 million, ending a 17-year association with the Red Devils.

According to reports, the sell-on clause could be as high as 50 per cent. With interest from clubs such as Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona, a bid of around £60 million would see United pocket approximately £30 million.

Such a deal would be welcome at Old Trafford, given minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's financial prudence since taking over football operations. New manager Ruben Amorim is keen to strengthen his squad, but transfer plans have reportedly been scaled back due to budget constraints.

Greenwood has scored 11 goals in 17 appearances for Marseille this season, helping them sit second in Ligue 1. However, a mid-season departure is unlikely as Marseille are pushing for a Champions League spot after a poor 2023/24 campaign.
