Manchester United are poised to receive a financial windfall as Mason Greenwood prepares to leave Marseille this summer. The forward, who has attracted interest from several European clubs, is expected to depart the French side after they failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Greenwood has enjoyed a productive season in Ligue 1, scoring 26 goals and providing 11 assists in all competitions. Roma are currently leading the race for his signature, having made contact with the player's father, while Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have also made enquiries. Turkish club Fenerbahce have also been linked, with presidential candidate Hakan Safi reportedly ready to announce the signing.
United included a sell-on clause when they sold Greenwood to Marseille for £26.6 million in 2024, which could see them receive up to 50 per cent of any future transfer fee. Marseille are reportedly seeking around £43 million for the striker, who remains under contract until 2029. The French club are under pressure to sell due to their precarious financial situation and need to comply with financial regulations before June 30.
Greenwood had previously expressed a desire to stay at Marseille, but the club's financial difficulties may force a move. Speaking after being named in Ligue 1's team of the season, he said: "This season has sometimes been difficult collectively, but individually I think I've had a good season. I hope I can stay." However, with Champions League qualification out of reach, a departure now appears inevitable.
