Conor Gallagher has pledged to bring “special moments” to Tottenham after completing a £34.6 million transfer from Atlético Madrid. Spurs moved quickly for the midfielder after Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a hamstring injury at Bournemouth last Wednesday, which required surgery.
Gallagher, 25, had been a long-term target for Tottenham, who looked at him at the end of the 2023-24 season before he moved from Chelsea to Atlético for £34 million. The England international has signed a contract until 2031 and is eager to return to the Premier League after a frustrating first half of the season in Spain, where he started only four La Liga matches.
“I’m so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club,” Gallagher said. “I wanted to be a Spurs player and thankfully the club felt the same. It was very easy. It happened very quickly and I’m ready to get on the pitch.”
Gallagher, capped 22 times by England, is also keen to reignite his international hopes before the World Cup this summer. He last played for Thomas Tuchel’s side in a friendly defeat by Senegal last June and is in contention to make his Spurs debut against West Ham on Saturday.
