Dundee United have tabled a six-figure bid for Falkirk midfielder Brad Spencer after having two previous offers rejected. The Tannadice club have returned with a third approach for the 30-year-old, who has been a key figure in Falkirk's rise from League One to a top-six finish in the Premiership last season.
Goodwin keen on Spencer
United manager Jim Goodwin is a big admirer of Spencer and has the financial resources to offer him a significant increase in wages. Falkirk boss John McGlynn is reluctant to lose the player, but United are determined to get a deal over the line.
Funds freed up for move
United have freed up money and wages through Julius Eskesen's loan move to Finnish club KuPS. Falkirk have already signed Dylan Tait from the Bairns, and they want to pair him with Spencer at Tannadice.
Spencer began his professional career at Kilmarnock before progressing through the ranks at Dumbarton, Forfar Athletic and then Raith Rovers, where he first worked with McGlynn. The player signed a new contract last season, but it is not at the top end of Falkirk's pay structure.
