Chelsea legend Marcel Desailly has urged the club to make another attempt to sign Victor Osimhen before the summer transfer window closes.
Joao Pedro led the Blues attack in their opening Premier League game of the season on Monday, scoring in a 3-2 win over Fulham. Danny Welbeck has also been brought in as another attacking option after Liam Delap left the club after just one season to join Nottingham Forest.
Striker departures
Nicolas Jackson has joined Aston Villa in a £65million deal, while RB Leipzig are in talks to sign Marc Guiu.
Chelsea were close to signing Osimhen two summers ago when he was at Napoli, only for the move to fall apart at the last minute. He instead joined Galatasaray, where he has spent the last two seasons.
Desailly's plea
Arsenal have explored a move for the Nigeria international in recent weeks, with the Gunners still eager to recruit another centre forward. Osimhen is reportedly still open to a move to the Premier League.
Desailly believes Chelsea still 'need that kind of player.'
'Osimhen, absolutely. He brings spirit and respect, strong respect from opponents and from his teammates,' Desailly told Metro via SportsCasting.
'He can be a bit unpredictable sometimes, but you need that kind of player who can justify his stature and his behaviour through performance, but also through a bit of controversy. He's strong, and he can bring that spirit to Chelsea.
'As for Jackson, he's gone to Aston Villa now. Honestly, I would have brought in a proper number-nine type striker. The problem is there aren't many strikers out there who could help Chelsea in the long run.'
