Former England defender Conor Coady has left Wrexham after his contract with the club was terminated by mutual consent.
The former Liverpool, Wolves and Leicester City centre-back joined the Welsh side from the Foxes last summer for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £2 million. While he started the first five games of Wrexham's 2025/26 Championship campaign, he fell down the pecking order and moved to Charlton Athletic on loan in the January transfer window.
Coady made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Addicks, but following his return to north Wales, has not featured in any of Phil Parkinson's matchday squads so far this season.
Contract terminated early
Wrexham did hold the option to extend Coady's stay at the Racecourse Ground by another year, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season. However, that contract has now been terminated early, with the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-backed club confirming that the 10-cap England international is leaving after playing a total of six games.
"Wrexham AFC can confirm defender Conor Coady has left the Football Club, following the mutual termination of his contract," a club statement read on Monday. "Coady joined Wrexham from Leicester City in August 2025 and made six appearances in all competitions for the Club, before a loan spell with Charlton Athletic in January 2026."
"All at Wrexham AFC would like to thank Conor for his efforts while with the Club and wish him well for the future."
Worrall close to arrival
Coady's departure comes as Wrexham are closing in on the signing of Burnley defender Joe Worrall ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline.
Parkinson's side had faced competition for Worrall from Sheffield United, but have won the battle for his signature, with the 29-year-old reportedly set to undergo a medical in north Wales later on Monday. The deal is expected to be in the region of £2 million, with Worrall's arrival set to take Wrexham's summer spending to over £28 million.
Summer spending spree
With the ambitious club pushing for promotion to the Premier League this season, they have already welcomed Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson through the doors in an £8 million club record deal.
The shot-stopper is one of several new faces in the squad, with defender Danny Imray joining from Crystal Palace, midfielder Ben Whiteman signing from Preston North End and left-back Jacques Ekomie coming in from French side Angers. Right-back Issa Kabore has also signed on a permanent deal after playing for Wrexham on loan from Manchester City last season.
