The transfer window remains as active as ever as the September 1 deadline approaches, with several big-money moves potentially still in the pipeline. Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is a top target for Manchester City this month, after City lost Bernardo Silva, Rodri, Tijani Reijnders and most recently Nico Gonzalez in a £50million move to Newcastle United.
City expected to bid for Fernandez
Despite Chelsea's £120m valuation of Fernandez, a bid from Enzo Maresca's side is expected before next Tuesday. Should Chelsea part ways with their midfielder, Xabi Alonso reportedly has a four-man shortlist to replace him.
Ben Jacobs of talkSPORT claimed that those four players are Manu Kone, Adam Wharton, Alex Scott and Eduardo Camavinga. A move for Real Madrid star Camavinga could see Chelsea fork out £51m for his services.
Camavinga's Madrid struggles
The midfielder fell in the pecking order at the Bernabeu last season under Carlo Ancelotti, and his struggle to earn time on the pitch has continued with Jose Mourinho now at the helm. He has played a combined 22 minutes in Madrid's opening two La Liga games and may opt for pastures new after seeing his career stall.
Madrid sanctioning a sale for Camavinga could see them seek a replacement, despite impressive midfield depth with Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Arda Guler, Federico Valverde, Thiago Pitarch and Silva.
Zubimendi linked with Madrid
A possible target could be Arsenal's Martin Zubimendi. The World Cup winner, who has reportedly been valued at £77m, has been usurped at the Emirates Stadium by Bruno Guimaraes' arrival earlier this month.
A move to Madrid could have come 12 months ago, but the Spanish giants failed to hijack Arsenal's agreement to sign the midfielder. Zubimendi, though, came off the bench in the Gunners' 3-0 win over Coventry City, and a move away from north London has already been shut down by Mikel Arteta.
When recently asked whether Zubimendi would leave, he said: "No, he's a really important player. Without a doubt, he was one of the best players for Arsenal last season. Without him, we would never have got into the position that we got into in the last few weeks."
As is the case with the final days of a transfer window, some deals may look dead and buried until they're not. Just one move in the market could impact several clubs and result in millions being spent.
