Michael Carrick has said Manchester United are still looking to strengthen further, amid a potential boost for a Lewis Hall transfer.
Busy summer at Old Trafford
Man Utd have been busy this summer, signing Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans for £35million from Aston Villa to boost the midfield department following the departure of Casemiro.
Karl Darlow has arrived on a free transfer from Leeds United to provide competition and cover for Senne Lammens. Youngster Tynan Thompson is another new face at Old Trafford, having sealed his move from Tottenham last month in a deal worth £8m (£4m up front and a further £4m in add-ons).
Carrick wants more
Man United are still trying to strengthen further in midfield and also want to bring in a left-back, with Hall said to be Carrick’s first-choice target.
Meanwhile, United’s likely rivals for a top-four finish next season in Chelsea and Tottenham have both spent £100m-plus on a player in the summer window. Asked if fans could expect to see an £100m signing walk through the door at Carrington before the transfer Deadline Day, Carrick replied: "Well that's what we're trying to do.
“A little bit depends on what position that is and what you’ve got and the dynamics you need at certain points. Sometimes you do need that if it’s the right player. Again, it’s not purely on money. Obviously over time we need to be pushing to look to enhance the squad. So, yeah, 100% we need to do that.
“We’ve done really good business. So we’re delighted with that [but] we want more, we need more, we keep looking for how we can do that, so that never stops.”
Hall keen on United move
According to reports, Hall is still very keen to join United this summer despite Newcastle insisting the defender is not for sale having already lost Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon.
However, the Magpies’ move for Benfica full-back Amar Dedic could be fantastic news for the Red Devils. While Dedic is predominately a right-back, he can operate on the opposite flank, thus leading to suggestions Newcastle are bracing themselves for a potential Hall exit by lining up a replacement. Though, as per the Athletic, this move for Dedic is with no senior right-backs available right now as Tino Livramento is unlikely to be fit until the end of the month.
