Bradley Barcola is set to undergo a medical with Liverpool after Paris Saint-Germain accepted a bid worth more than £110 million for the winger. Reports on Thursday indicated that a verbal agreement had been reached between the two clubs following weeks of negotiations.
Personal terms agreed
According to French journalist François Plateau, Barcola has been pushing for the move for several weeks and personal terms have already been agreed. The 23-year-old is expected to travel to Merseyside for a medical once he receives the green light from PSG, which could come on Friday.
Only minor details are left to finalise as Liverpool wrap up a third deal worth well over £100 million in a little over a year.
Debut date decided
Because of registration requirements, Barcola will not be available for Liverpool's game against Nottingham Forest, regardless of when the transfer is officially announced. The France international would need to be registered with the club by 12pm on Friday, August 28, to be included in the matchday squad.
Liverpool's next fixture, an away match against Ipswich on Friday, September 4, has been earmarked as Barcola's debut. By then, the transfer window will have closed and the France star is expected to have spent time training with his new team-mates. An Anfield debut could follow soon afterwards, with Liverpool due to face Tottenham in the third round of the Carabao Cup the following week.
Further signings possible
Barcola would become Liverpool's fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz and Ronald Araujo. All three made their debuts in Sunday's 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.
Liverpool's business may not end with Barcola, however. The club are still looking to add further attacking options before the transfer deadline and have recently seen offers rejected for Yankuba Minteh and Ismaila Sarr. Another PSG forward, Ibrahim Mbaye, is also understood to be among the players Liverpool are monitoring.
Whether the club decide to pursue a deal for Mbaye remains uncertain, with Liverpool continuing to assess their options as the final days of the transfer window approach. The arrival of another wide forward could see Cody Gakpo move to Tottenham, who are said to be ready to pay around £75 million for the Dutch star.
