Arsenal are intensifying their efforts to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season, having already secured Christos Tzolis, Illan Meslier, and Piero Hincapie for a combined £68.5 million. Bruno Guimaraes is poised to become their fourth signing after completing a medical for a £75 million move.
Vinicius Jr agreement
Real Madrid are close to finalising a contract extension for Vinicius Junior, effectively ending Arsenal's pursuit. According to Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement is nearly concluded, with the 26-year-old giving the green light for a new long-term deal.
Jose Mourinho has reportedly urged the winger to stay, indicating he was prepared to reintegrate him into the squad. Speaking ahead of Vinicius's return to training, Mourinho said: "I'm concerned about not having everyone, and I would like to have three weeks of work with the others. It's not possible."
He added: "On Monday, Vini Jr, Brahim, and Bernardo will arrive. Little by little, until the boys who played in the World Cup semifinals and final arrive, with the final being only Cucurella."
Ezri Konsa twist
Liverpool are set to challenge Arsenal for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa amid their defensive crisis. Joe Gomez has suffered an injury, Jeremy Jacquet is yet to appear, and Virgil van Dijk remains absent following the World Cup.
Arsenal had shown interest in Konsa after William Saliba's back injury, but Villa's £60 million valuation is believed to exceed their budget. The 28-year-old, with two years left on his contract, could be an excellent addition for either club.
Bruno Guimaraes issue
Guimaraes's impending arrival could create complications for Declan Rice, who may be deployed in an unfamiliar role. Rice has been Arsenal's dependable No. 8 with 158 appearances, but Guimaraes also thrives in a creative position, potentially pushing Rice into a more defensive No. 6 role.
Jay Bothroyd considers them among the Premier League's finest midfield pairings. He said: "I do believe with Rice and Guimaraes, of all of those, I would probably say, as athletes as well as football players, they would be the best partnership in terms of fitness, physicality, both boxes."
He added: "I think tactically, Rodri and Elliot Anderson might be better, but I think definitely for the way Arsenal play, I wouldn't swap that pairing for any of the others."
