A viral video has emerged from the US Open showing a man snatching a cap intended for a young fan from the child’s hands. The footage captures Polish tennis player Kamil Majchrzak attempting to hand his cap to a child in the crowd, only for an adult male nearby to intercept and take it.
The incident, which quickly spread on social media, shows the man grabbing the cap as the child reaches for it, leaving the young fan empty-handed. The video has drawn widespread criticism, with many condemning the fan’s actions as unsportsmanlike.
Following the incident, Majchrzak met with the young fan and his companion. In an Instagram post, he shared images of himself shaking hands with two boys and giving them gifts, including a cap similar to the one he had tried to give away in the stands.
The US Open has not yet commented on the incident, but the viral moment has cast a shadow over the tournament, raising questions about fan behaviour at major sporting events.
