Canadian rapper Drake has placed a $300,000 wager on world No 1 Jannik Sinner to win the US Open, posting a screenshot of the betting slip on social media. The bet would pay $507,000 if Sinner claims his fifth major title and second at Flushing Meadows.
The so-called 'Drake Curse' has previously affected his sports bets, including a $210,000 loss when Taylor Fritz beat Sinner in the 2024 US Open final. However, Drake successfully picked Sinner to win the Australian Open in January, offsetting some losses. According to a tracking website, he is down $115,000 on tennis overall.
Drake's betting history extends beyond tennis. During the 2024 Copa América, he lost $300,000 when Canada lost to Argentina in the semi-finals, a bet that would have paid nearly $2.9 million. Argentina taunted him afterward by referencing Kendrick Lamar's diss track 'Not Like Us' in a social media post.
Sinner, 24, reached the quarter-finals after defeating Alexander Bublik in the fourth round. He faces compatriot Lorenzo Musetti next and remains the betting favourite to win the tournament.
