Scotland vs Morocco: World Cup Predictions and Destiny
Scotland vs Morocco: World Cup Predictions

It's a massive one in Boston as Scotland stand just a point away from uncharted territory. Two bites at the cherry—that's what Scotland have now as their opening World Cup win over Haiti means they stand just a point from guaranteeing knockout football for the first time ever. The three points they currently have could well be enough to send them through as one of the better third-placed sides, but it would be leaving a lot to chance. Steve Clarke and his team will be determined to get it done on their own terms, and they can do exactly that by avoiding defeat against African champions Morocco on Friday night. But can they do it at the first time of asking? The predictions are in from Record Sport's top team.

This is the ultimate battle of heart and head, but I’m afraid there’s only one winner. Before the tournament, I feared Morocco were the best side in the group, and their performance in the draw with Brazil just confirmed it. They have quality players throughout and will be too slick for Scotland. It won’t be the end of the world for Steve Clarke’s side though, with Brazil still to come.

The Atlas Lions looked impressive against Brazil, but Scotland can get the point they need to make history. Five at the back, Lyndon Dykes up top, and Scott McTominay and John McGinn leading the counter-attack charge from midfield. It won’t be pretty, but a Steve Clarke masterclass is on the cards.

Let's aim high, eh? Morocco are a great side, but we're no mugs either when we turn it on. Steve Clarke's greatest accomplishment as Scotland boss is within touching distance, and I'm confident the team will turn up for him and get qualification over the line.

Scotland will need a performance from the top drawer to get anything from this match. Morocco were every bit as good as Brazil in their opener and have quality in all departments. The African champions may, ultimately, be too strong for Steve Clarke’s boys.

The African champions are a proper outfit and showed their class at times in their opener with Brazil. But I think this could be the type of game that suits a Steve Clarke side down to the ground. Keep it tight, don’t do anything silly, and strike on the counter. Of course, we need every player to hit their maximum level, and we simply have to keep the ball better than we did against Haiti. But if Clarke’s side can dig out a gritty display, a point should be enough to see us through to the last 32.

Morocco have been tipped as World Cup dark horses and showed their quality by going toe-to-toe with Brazil in the opener. But I suspect Steve Clarke will bin the 4-4-2 and revert to a more defensive system that could see us nick a priceless point.
