Emma Raducanu retired during the third set of her first-round match against qualifier Camila Osorio at the Qatar Open on Monday, after receiving a medical timeout for a blood pressure check.
The British No 1 had started strongly, winning the first set 6-2 in 38 minutes, but Osorio fought back to take the second set 6-4. Raducanu was broken at the start of the deciding set and called for the physio after choosing not to chase a drop shot.
Following a lengthy conversation and a blood pressure test, Raducanu returned to court but lost the second game to love before walking to the net to shake Osorio's hand and retire from the match.
The retirement comes after Raducanu's recent split from coach Francisco Roig following her second-round exit at the Australian Open, and a straight-sets loss in the Transylvania Open final on Saturday.
