The Ospreys have confirmed the signing of Australian utility-back Lawson Creighton from the Waratahs, bolstering their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Third Australian Signing
Creighton becomes the third Australian to join the Ospreys in recent weeks, following former Wallabies captain Liam Wright and Waikato Chiefs centre Lalakai Foketi. The club already has Ryan Smith on their books.
The 27-year-old replaces Jack Walsh, who has signed for Montauban.
Versatile Playmaker
A consistent, reliable fly-half capable of playing across the backline, Creighton's size and speed allow him to influence the game both in attack and defence.
“This is a great opportunity for me to test myself in the BKT URC and to join a team with a strong reputation of developing top quality international players,” Creighton said. “There’s some really impressive young talent in the squad already and when I spoke to Mark Jones, he was very clear about the project they’re trying to build and where I fit into that. I’m looking forward to this new chapter of my career and excited to be a part of this group of players. I already can’t wait to get started and to pull on the famous black jersey for the first time.”
Competition for Places
Creighton will compete with Wales outside-half Dan Edwards for the number 10 shirt, while also able to slot in across the back-line.
“This is another excellent addition to our squad for next season,” said Ospreys head coach Mark Jones. “Lawson is a talented fly-half that can dictate the speed of the game and his versatility is something that will be invaluable for us this season. With Dan Edwards on international duty with Wales and Walshy departing, it was highly important for us to strengthen our ranks at 10 and bring in someone with the ability to compete for the starting spot, so I’m really happy that the club were able to get this one over the line.”
Jones added: “Similarly to some of the other players we’ve brought in, we feel Lawson’s experience in Super Rugby will be hugely beneficial to our younger backline players and will help them take their game to the next level.”
