Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes is facing an uncertain future at St James' Park after the Magpies failed to qualify for European football next season. The Brazilian midfielder, who starred for Brazil, could be a serious transfer concern this summer.
After Newcastle's underwhelming Premier League campaign, finishing in 12th place, Guimaraes leaving Tyneside has become a worrying reality. Despite the team's disappointing domestic season, the 28-year-old was a bright spark, contributing to 14 goals in 29 league matches.
World Cup Duty
Guimaraes is expected to play an integral part in Brazil's World Cup bid in North America. He featured in all but one of Brazil's qualification matches and scored in a recent friendly win against Egypt. Brazil's campaign starts tonight against Morocco in Group C.
Departure Concerns
Newcastle have already lost top scorer Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70 million, with other key players like Lewis Hall and Sandro Tonali also rumoured to leave. Could Guimaraes join the list?
In a Newcastle United Q&A, Chronicle Live's Lee Ryder expressed concern: "With Bruno towards the end of the season, the body language was a little bit worrying. That last game against Fulham particularly, he didn't look too happy. It hasn't been a great season. No Europe, which he loves playing in. He's at an age where he wants to be playing in the Champions League all the time. I'm sure his agent will be getting phone calls."
