Man City Join Arsenal in Race for Jeremy Monga

Manchester City have entered the race to sign Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga, posing fresh competition for Arsenal, who were previously leading the chase for the 16-year-old talent.

City's Interest Emerges

According to BBC Sport, City have long held an interest in Monga and made enquiries this week about securing his signature. Arsenal had been expected to reach an agreement for the player in a deal worth around £10 million, as reported by Standard Sport last month. However, City's intervention has complicated the situation.

Brentford are also said to be keen on Monga, but Arsenal's negotiations are the most advanced among interested clubs. City may move quickly to finalise a deal.

Monga's Rising Profile

Jeremy Monga is currently on scholarship terms at Leicester, which will convert to a professional contract on July 10. He turns 17 this month. Monga is the third-youngest player to ever appear in the Premier League, after Arsenal's Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri. He made his Premier League debut at age 15 in a 3-0 defeat by Newcastle.

During the 2025/26 Championship season, Monga became a first-team regular for Leicester, scoring one goal and providing two assists in 27 appearances. His sole goal, against Preston North End, made him Leicester's youngest-ever scorer.

Transfer Context

Monga, born in Coventry, is an experienced England youth international and is also eligible to represent Zambia. Arsenal are expected to have a busy summer transfer window, with Morgan Rogers tipped as their flagship target. Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola are also of interest to the Gunners.
