Liverpool have been advised that a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola may require patience, as talks between the clubs continue. The Reds are looking to reinforce their forward line following Mohamed Salah's departure as a free agent and an Achilles injury to Hugo Ekitike.
Talks Ongoing but Valuation Gap Remains
According to L'Equipe, Liverpool and PSG are currently in discussions over a potential transfer for Barcola. However, there remains a significant gap in valuation between the two sides. PSG are said to value Barcola at around €170million (£145million), a figure influenced by recent big-money moves, including Morgan Rogers' £117million transfer to Chelsea from Aston Villa. Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson also completed deals worth at least £100million this summer.
Player Contract and Manager Stance
Reports over the weekend indicated that Barcola has decided against signing a new contract with PSG, suggesting a permanent exit is possible. PSG manager Luis Enrique has stated he only wants “committed” players in his squad next season, implying that reluctant players may not see playing time. This could mirror the situation that led to Alexander Isak's move to Liverpool last summer.
Possible Repeat of Isak Saga
Liverpool eventually signed Isak from Newcastle on deadline day for £125million, after weeks of uncertainty. Isak did not feature in pre-season or early Premier League matches for Newcastle before his move, and he was not match-fit immediately after the transfer. He made just 22 appearances in his first season, with his first start coming on September 17 against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
Liverpool have made only one signing so far this summer: Victor Munoz arrived from Osasuna for £34.5million. The club may need to wait for the right moment to secure Barcola, as both sides are prepared to remain patient in negotiations.
