Hamilton Wins British GP in Ferrari Debut

Lewis Hamilton secured a dramatic victory at the British Grand Prix on Sunday, marking his first win for Ferrari in front of a record crowd of 164,000 at Silverstone. The seven-time world champion overtook Red Bull's Max Verstappen with just three laps remaining, crossing the line 1.2 seconds ahead to claim his ninth British GP win.

Race Highlights

Starting from pole position, Hamilton lost the lead to Verstappen at the first corner but stayed within striking distance throughout the 52-lap race. A mid-race safety car period brought the pack together, setting up a tense finale. Hamilton, on fresher soft tyres, chased down Verstappen and made the decisive move at Copse corner on lap 49.

"This is unbelievable," Hamilton said over team radio after the race. "To win here at Silverstone in my first year with Ferrari is beyond my wildest dreams. The team gave me an incredible car and the fans were phenomenal."

Ferrari's Resurgence

The victory is Ferrari's first at the British Grand Prix since 2018 and cements Hamilton's status as the most successful driver at the circuit. Team principal Frédéric Vasseur praised the strategy: "We took a calculated risk with the tyre choice and Lewis executed it perfectly. This is a huge moment for the entire team."

Hamilton's win moves him to third in the drivers' championship, 34 points behind Verstappen with 10 races remaining. The result also extends his record for most wins at a single grand prix to nine.

Other Results

McLaren's Lando Norris finished third, 4.5 seconds behind, while Hamilton's teammate Charles Leclerc came fourth after a late pit stop. Mercedes struggled, with George Russell retiring due to an engine failure on lap 38.

"We just didn't have the pace today," Verstappen admitted. "Ferrari were quicker and Lewis drove a faultless race. We'll come back stronger in Hungary."
