Lewis Ferguson's father Derek has made his feelings clear about a potential Rangers transfer, expressing delight that his son is playing for Bologna in Italy, according to BBC host Stuart Cosgrove. Cosgrove revealed unseen chats with the former Ibrox man to cool talk of a move for the Scotland international to the Light Blues this summer.
Family Connection Not a Factor
Derek Ferguson and his brother Barry both played for Rangers, and it was previously mentioned that Lewis was determined to follow in their footsteps when he left Aberdeen in 2022. However, the approach never came. Speaking on BBC's Off The Ball, Cosgrove said: "I don't see the family connection [to Rangers] being a big issue, because of the amount of times I have spoken to his father - I have not spoken to his uncle Barry - but I have spoken to his father, but his father is delighted about him being away from Scotland, delighted about him being in Italy, delighted about how he has improved his personal skills, footballing skills and language skills. What is he going to do if he does come back? He is just going to get stuck in the same old Celtic and Rangers stuff."
Rangers Interest and Bologna's Stance
Rangers have approached Bologna over a deal, with a player-plus-cash deal floated involving Connor Barron and a potential £17 million transfer. However, new Bologna boss Domenico Tedesco appears keen on the 26-year-old, with his assistant Andrea Tarozzi branding the playmaker "fundamental" to the club.
