Express Sport brings you up to date with all of the goings on from the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.
Starting Grid Shake-Up
After an uncharacteristically hectic Monaco Grand Prix last time around, racing returns to the track this weekend for the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. It is another Mercedes pole position, although not the driver many were expecting, with George Russell having bounced back from his nightmare outing in the principality to start at the top.
He will be joined by former team-mate Lewis Hamilton alongside him, with the seven-time world champion having enjoyed a solid season in the Ferrari so far. Then comes Kimi Antonelli in third, with the Italian's hopes of a sixth consecutive race win having taken a beating during qualifying. But you cannot rule out the championship leader, and he is certain to keep himself in the mix for as long as possible this afternoon.
Lewis Hamilton Singled Out by Mercedes Boss
Lewis Hamilton has been singled out by Mercedes boss Toto Wolff ahead of the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. The Brit has been in fine form of late and will start second on the grid, just behind George Russell and just ahead of Kimi Antonelli. Wolff believes Hamilton could be a danger to Mercedes' winning streak, if he manages to get ahead.
Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “My old friend. When people doubted whether he still had the speed, I’ve always said if he’s in the right frame of mind and the car suits him, then he is to be reckoned with. You need to count him in, and that’s what he did. If there isn’t a tiny mistake at the end, he is a tenth-and-a-half quicker than us.
“I think it’s going to play out in tyre degradation and we were quite good in the long run yesterday [Friday practice] – but it all depends on the start. If Lewis is ahead after the start, that’s going to be a tough one for everyone, so I’m really curious to see how that pans out.”
