Bellingham clashes with Argentina stars after World Cup exit

Jude Bellingham clashed with Argentina stars after England were eliminated from the World Cup in a tense semi-final. The Real Madrid midfielder appeared to slap Strasbourg defender Valentin Barco on the back of the head following the full-time whistle, sparking a melee involving several players from both sides.

Match Recap: England's Heartbreak

Anthony Gordon opened the scoring shortly after half-time, but Argentina roared back with a late equaliser from Enzo Fernandez and a winner from Lautaro Martinez. The match was a cagey, aggressive affair, particularly in the first half, which ended with 19 fouls and just three shots.

Bellingham played the entire match and impressed, but could not replicate the heroics that sank Norway in the previous round to take England to this stage.

The Flashpoint: Bellingham and Barco

Video footage shows Bellingham standing alone at the final whistle as a group of Argentina players celebrated in a huddle nearby. He then approached the group and appeared to slap Barco on the head. Exequiel Palacios immediately intervened to defend his teammate.

Barco, 21, did not play in the match. His only contribution to Argentina's World Cup campaign so far was a 20-minute cameo off the bench against Jordan in the group stage.

Melee and Aftermath

Several players from both sides joined the altercation, including Dean Henderson, Ollie Watkins, James Trafford, Lautaro Martinez, and Lionel Messi. The disagreement subsided quickly as Watkins led Bellingham away.

It remains to be seen whether Bellingham will face any disciplinary action from FIFA for his role in the incident.
