The BBC has confirmed its Wimbledon 2026 presenting lineup after beloved weather presenter Carol Kirkwood stepped away from her role. Isa Guha led the early morning broadcasts on Monday, June 29, alongside Tim Henman and Anne Keothavong, and paid tribute to Kirkwood at the start of the show.
Kirkwood's Departure After 28 Years
Carol Kirkwood, who traditionally presented the weather throughout the Championships, will not feature on screen this year. She announced her retirement from BBC Breakfast in April after a 28-year stint, citing a desire to prioritise her marriage and travel. Guha said: "Now, this is normally the time in the show that we head across to Carol Kirkwood for a British weather update, especially here in the sunshine. It would have been great to see her, but after 28 years on BBC Breakfast, Carol has moved on. So, we wish you all the best, Carol. Hopefully you've got your feet up on the sofa with a cup of tea to enjoy the tennis this week."
Rotating Weather Presenters
Kirkwood will be substituted by a rotating roster of BBC weather presenters, including Sarah Keith-Lucas, Elizabeth Rizzini, Tomasz Schafernaker, and Helen Willetts. This change marks a significant shift for the broadcaster's Wimbledon coverage, as Kirkwood had been a fixture during the tournament for nearly three decades.
Devastating Injury News
Wimbledon fans received another blow on day one when it was announced that British No. 5 Jack Draper had withdrawn from the tournament due to a recurrence of his arm injury. The news came during the first-round clash between Jannik Sinner and Miomir Kecmanovic. Guha told viewers: "There's been so much action, so much news to tell you about, and there's some more disappointing news for British fans. After Emma Raducanu was forced to withdraw with injury last night, Jack Draper has also dropped out. This is breaking news just coming out of the Draper camp. The British No. 5 has been due to face sixth seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court tomorrow [Tuesday], but he has been forced to pull out. Jack, we wish you all the best, and that Draper-Murray era will have to wait."
Draper's Statement
Draper announced his withdrawal at 2:30pm, stating: "Devastated to share that I have had to withdraw from my first round match due to a recurrence of my arm injury. There have been a lot of painful moments in the last 12 months but this one is definitely the absolute worst as there is no greater honour for a British player than playing at Wimbledon. I will continue to persevere through this. Thank you for the support!!"
Raducanu Also Sidelined
British hopeful Emma Raducanu had already been ruled out of the tournament due to a stress fracture, leaving home fans with limited representation. Raducanu was spotted on crutches after banking a big Wimbledon payday from sponsorship deals.
On-Court Action
Despite the off-court drama, defending champion Jannik Sinner overcame Miomir Kecmanovic in a five-set thriller on Centre Court. The Italian is the hot favourite to clinch back-to-back titles following Carlos Alcaraz's withdrawal through injury.
