Ruben Amorim is among the names being considered for the AC Milan job, but another former Premier League boss is also on their shortlist.
Amorim's Recent History
The ex-Manchester United boss was relieved of his duties back in January, bringing to an end his underwhelming spell at Old Trafford. Prior to that, Amorim had claimed a host of titles at Sporting Lisbon, which saw him forge an impressive reputation.
He has been out of work for six months but could now land a gig at one of Europe's most decorated teams, with Milan looking for a new manager and preparing to make contact with several individuals. They axed Max Allegri once the Serie A season finished and have several individuals on their radar.
Other Candidates
As well as Amorim, the San Siro hierarchy are keeping tabs on Oliver Glasner, who is another man out of work. The Austrian has just left Crystal Palace following the expiry of his contract, but went out on a high having delivered the Conference League title. Glasner won three trophies during his time at the Eagles, making him the club's most successful manager of all time. His exploits at Selhurst Park mean he will not be short of offers.
Matthias Jaissle, currently in charge at Al-Ahli, is the third man Milan are reportedly preparing to reach out to. The German won successive league titles with Red Bull Salzburg before heading to Saudi Arabia. There he has won the Saudi Cup and the AFC Champions League Elite on two occasions.
Milan's Struggles
Milan's summer of change comes after a shocking end to the season which saw them fall from third to fifth after a 2-1 defeat by Cagliari on the final day, meaning they missed out on Champions League football for the second year in a row. Inter Milan, Napoli, Roma and minnows Como all finished above them, with Milan having to accept a spot in the Europa League. Nevertheless, Allegri, who won Serie A for the Rossoneri back in 2011, has paid for the failure with his job.
The club's owners RedBird Capital said: 'For the majority of this season, we were in the top two positions in Serie A, with a credible shot at competing for the Scudetto. The final stretch was completely inconsistent with the performance up to that point, with last night's disappointing loss in the final game turning the season into an unequivocal failure. It is now time for change.'
